Job Summary

Clinical Instructor to teach one or more section(s) in one or more clinical course(s) for the College of Nursing for one semester.

 

Essential Functions

This appointment carries a professional commitment to the university and a commitment to understand and adhere to applicable university and college of nursing policies. Article 13 of the current CBA outlines many faculty roles and responsibilities.

Initially, in this appointment, your workload will consist of:

  • Conduct engaging and effective nursing clinical instruction for 8-10 students in diverse healthcare settings and simulation labs, emphasizing essential skills and critical clinical judgment.
  • Maintain FERPA certification each semester 
  • Address student concerns promptly, contacting the clinical coordinator or program director within 24 hours.
  • Provide advance notice to the College HR Director, clinical coordinator, and undergraduate program director for any clinical absences, along with an agreed-upon plan for makeup hours.
  • Respond to UMass email within 24 business hours during the teaching semester.
  • Fulfill all credentialing requirements for the assigned practice setting, including health requirements, vaccinations, licensure, CPR
  • Adhere to EMCON nursing curriculum during teaching, following the course syllabus, clinical objectives, assignments, and attendance requirements.
  • Attend scheduled Clinical Faculty Meetings and meet with the clinical course coordinator at least two to three times during the semester.
  • Submit a completed clinical evaluation tool (CET) and course grade to the clinical course coordinator by the end of the semester.  

Teaching schedules may vary from one semester to another, depending on the program needs, the availability of resources (including classroom and clinical placements, and other faculty), as well as the enrollment demand. 

Qualified candidates will be asked to complete background check and credentialing requirements prior to being added to a faculty pool from which they may be appointed for a one or more semesters as determined by the teaching needs of the College.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • You must have a valid Massachusetts RN license in good standing.
  • Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing must matriculate into a Master’s Program within 1 year or obtain NLN Clinical Nurse Educator certification within one year to be considered for re-hire per the Massachusetts regulation.
  • Minimum of two years full-time experience in nursing, or its equivalent, within the last five years and evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical instruction.
  • Evidence to demonstrate the maintenance of expertise appropriate to teaching responsibilities.

 

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Master’s degree in nursing or a terminal degree.
  • A specialization in: Pediatrics, Medical Surgical Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, and Community/Public Health Nursing.

 

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Traveling to community work locations.
  • Extended periods of walking and standing in the healthcare setting.

 

Work Schedule

  • Clinical course schedules, including dates in healthcare settings and the EMCON simulation lab, are developed by the clinical course coordinator and will be provided to instructors before the semester begins.
  • Clinical instructors may teach in one or more clinical course sections as agreed upon for the semester.

 

Salary Information

Salary commensurate with education and experience
